![]() The best things about this book for me are the kids and the narration. ![]() It feels like Matt was just wanting a "wife fill in". The fact that she's so pure and nieve, tge possibility of hooking up with an old dad just doesn't seem sexy to me. For a while the only thing going on is Matt being rude with a bunch of angst between them. Matt is a 30 year old super grouch and Octavia is an 18 year old virgin. It sounds like the story would get really hot and sexy after this point, but unfortunately it doesn't. When he sees the bullies in town giving her a hard time during her job search, he speaks up and hires her. Sounds like a great match for Matt right? Matt, who's still grieving the loss of his wife, thinks Octavia reminds him of his wife too much to be around so he doesn't hire her. She's helped raise her siblings while her mom worked to support a household without a dad. Long time resident Octavia just happens to be looking for work. When he starts working as a mechanic, a nanny becomes necessary. ![]() Matt's a sexy single dad who moves his kids to a new town after the death of his wife. ![]() Not the worst story I've ever heard, but certainly not the best. ![]()

![]() One summer midnight, when the Sun God had walked alone into his moonlit garden, the Moon Goddess descended in the form of a beautiful woman. But into the room that the Sun God shared with his bride, the Moon Goddess shone night after night, and soon she, too, fell in love. So Constancia became a goddess as well as a queen, and for a time, the divine walked the island in human form. Each morning he shone brighter and brighter into her window, until one day he walked through in the form of a man, fell to one knee, and asked to be hers forever. She was strong, brave, and her brilliant mind rivaled the god’s own. Constancia was the daughter of Medio’s king. For thousands of years, Medio existed in harmony and prosperity. ![]() ![]() On the outer island, the Salt God kept the water teeming with fish, the waves calm, and the beaches safe. On the inner island, the Sun God warmed the soil, shone down on the plentiful foliage, and browned the skin of his chosen children. In the beginning, there were two brother-gods: the God of Salt and the God of Sun. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() In this paper I will argue that through a complex network of individual and collective memories the protagonist emerges as a medium of ethnic memory. In a compelling combination of a first- and third-person omniscient narration, this family saga of three generations of Greek immigrants from Asia Minor to the United States challenges not only the framework of the novel, but also the constructions of remembering and forgetting. In terms of memory the protagonist goes to the extreme: Claiming to remember his life from the moment of his conception on, Cal/Callie even goes as far as narrating grandparents’ memories. “I was born twice”, states the narrator of the novel Middlesex by Jeffrey Eugenides. ![]() ![]() To begin with, I thought his delivery was flat and lifeless. I first came across Michael Prichard as a narrator many years ago, with a recording of the Bourne Identity. And because of the way the audiobooks were originally presented (enough to fill a C60 or C90 cassette) vs how they are presented here (each chapter is a separate file), halfway through a chapter you can tell that there was a break in the original where the narrator had to pause and have a rest. In fact, there is one part (perhaps in chapter 24) where it gets so bad that they brought in another narrator to re-record a fragment. In some places, you can hear where it gets to 'the end of side 1' because the audio becomes a little muffled. This was taken from an old (ooooold!!) audio recording, possibly done in the 80s or 90s. ![]() It's not so much the narrator's voice that is the problem as the quality of the recording. ![]() I've given 4 stars for the performance of this audiobook. ![]() ![]() The music is also available in separate CDs in the Original Jazz Classics series. This eight-CD set does indeed have all 17 of trumpeter Miles Davis' Prestige sessions. ![]()
![]() ![]() But by the fifth book you felt that Ward was running out of plot lines or I was just getting use to her writing style. The first few books in the series are by far greater in detail than the rest and grab my attention for to this day I still re-read them. ![]() Though a lot of her characters are similar in personality she still maintains a unique take on each character and inmerses them into a plot that can sometimes repeat itself. I love JR Ward's vampire series, and mostly for the fact that she does a good job of stripping the mystique of vampires and puts them into a new world that still intersects with our own reality. Becuase I'm a serious fan girl of the series and love rough and tough vampire men as much as the next vampire crazy, I've read all the books and feel a review for all of them is just a bit obsessive. ![]() I was thouroughly pleased when they put these books in groups. ![]() ![]() ![]() All initial responses to posters must contain a properly punctuated question.Requests should be posted in /r/IAmARequests.See here for tips concerning proof and examples. If it must remain confidential, you can submit proof on our website so we can verify you and your claims. The duology takes place two years after the events of the first trilogy, but the first book doesn’t really contain any spoilers for what happens to Shadow and Bone’s Alina, the Darkling, and the rest of the Ravka crew. It focuses on a band of criminals led by the cunning Kaz Brekker as they pull off a grand heist. ![]() Six of Crows is the first book in Bardugo’s spinoff duology. It isn’t a particularly controversial method, by any means, but for those unfamiliar with the books, I am here to be your Grisha guide.Īnd with that: Start with Six of Crows. But you know how some Star Wars fans recommend a non-intuitive order to watch the movies? I’m about to suggest a similar strategy for diving into the Grishaverse books. Or even the first trilogy.īut wait, you might ask yourself, is that not the book that the show is based on? Isn’t it the first book of the series? The one that sets the stage for everything else? The one that introduces the Grisha, Sun Summoner Alina Starkov, and the swath of sentient darkness that tears Ravka in half? Isn’t season 2 going to adapt the second book? Here’s some unsolicited advice: Don’t start with the first novel, Shadow and Bone. If you’re super excited about season 2 of Netflix’s Shadow and Bone series and you’ve never read the Leigh Bardugo books it’s based on, you might be thinking about trying the main trilogy the show adapts. ![]() |
